Sarah Jaysmith

Music Director

Sarah Jaysmith has been involved in Broadway Chorus since 2007, and has been Music Director for most of the shows since then (with occasional cameos as the enigmatic Fraulein J).

Sarah has been involved in musical theatre (performing and writing) since her early teens - first in Ireland, then in England, and now here in Vancouver. In addition to music directing the Chorus, she also does most of the vocal arrangements for the songs (and writes flute parts). She and her husband Gil often write original songs for the shows. Their son Galen (6) is already a big fan of the Broadway Chorus, and loves to come to rehearsal and sing the warmups!

She is an audition pianist about town (she is often particularly involved in the auditions for Theatre Under The Stars) and loves to accompany anything from solos to full ensembles. She has music directed shows such as Rent, Forbidden Broadway, and The Musical of Musicals: The Musical, in addition to Chorus shows.

In 2015, Sarah's original musical (co-written with husband Gil), One plus One, was produced in Vancouver. Sarah also writes and arranges choral music for the wider world, and has had her music performed in Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Nevada, and upstate New York. Her arrangement of "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella" is available on Silent Night, a CD from Elektra Women's Choir.
