John Liket
July 25, 1939 - June 24, 2018
John (Johannes) Liket was born in the Netherlands in the small town of Esch, and emigrated to Canada in 1955 with his parents and 5 siblings.
He enjoyed hard work: he earned two degrees, taught for years at Richmond Senior Secondary, and to relax he fixed cars, renovated homes, and built (and rebuilt) his cabin at Peter Hope Lake. He gave so generously of his time and knowledge, doing as much (or more) for others than he did for himself.
He married Arlene in 1964 and they raised their family (son Ashley and daughter Tammy) in Richmond before moving to Vancouver. He was completely devoted to his family, and delighted to have three grand-children (Finnian, Beckett, and Jemma) who got to know him well and learn his life lessons. Thanks to an early retirement he was able to spend many happy times abroad with Arlene, seeing the world, and reconnecting with his Dutch relations.
John was so grateful for the outpouring of support in his final weeks, so we thank his family and friends for the incredible care and attention you have given him, and the staff at St. John Hospice who were exceptionally dedicated.
A private Celebration of Life will be held later in the year.

We like to think, wherever he is, he's helping them fix it up so that it'll be nicer for us when we finally get there. We will all miss him dearly.
In 2014 John and Arlene celebrated their 50 year anniversary. Their son made a short video honouring their years together. It can be seen here:
